Game Of Growth - Build your own Startup

In partnership with Scarlett Abbott, we embarked on an innovative journey to develop The Game of Growth for a major client. This choose your own adventure web game was designed to immerse employees in the intricacies of business growth, allowing them to step into the shoes of a startup CEO. Through a series of decisions and challenges, players would learn firsthand the impacts of their choices on business success.

Objectives

Our goal was to create an interactive experience that not only educates employees about the complexities of running a business but also engages them in a meaningful and enjoyable way. By assuming the role of a startup CEO, players would navigate through various scenarios, each designed to highlight the pros and cons of different business decisions.

The Strillobyte Approach

Adhering to our core principles of Viability, Design, and Uniqueness, we crafted a game that was not only quick and easy to develop but also visually engaging and distinct in its identity. Our collaborative process with Scarlett Abbott ensured that the game’s development stayed true to these values, resulting in a product that stands out in both form and function.

Outcomes

Launched on November 27, 2017, the Game of Growth quickly became a success story. Available initially in English and later expanded to include Polish, Italian, and French translations, the game featured 16 different endings and 4 leadership profiles. Within just two months, it attracted over 5,000 users who played more than 8,000 sessions — an average of 90 games per day — demonstrating the game’s widespread appeal and engagement.

Challenges and Solutions

Faced with a tight deadline, our team implemented iterative upgrades and maintained proactive communication with the client to ensure timely delivery. Additionally, managing the game’s hosting involved close coordination with the client’s IT department, highlighting our ability to navigate and resolve technical challenges efficiently.

Lessons Learned

This project underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement and flexibility in achieving success. The support from our client was instrumental in meeting our deadlines, and the iterative engagement with end-users provided invaluable feedback. This collaborative approach not only met but exceeded expectations, as evidenced by the game’s outstanding reception and usage statistics.
